Fourteenth meeting of the Working Group on IWRM

22 - 24 October 2019

Salle XII, Palais des Nations, Geneva, Switzerland

The fourteenth meeting of the Working Group on Integrated Water Resources Management (WGIWRM) under the Water Convention will be held from Tuesday, 22 October until Thursday, 24 October 2019 in the Palais des Nations in Geneva, starting at 10 a.m. on 22 October and ending at 12.00 p.m. on 24 October. The Working Group meeting will be preceded on 21 October by the meeting of the Expert Group on water allocation as well as the regional workshop on reporting on SDG indicator 6.5.2 for the pan-European region, and will be followed on 24 October afternoon by the Event "Promoting an integrated and inter-sectoral approach to water management in the Mediterannean region".

The Working Group will review implementation of the work programme for 2019-2021 of the Water Convention (ECE/MP.WAT/54/Add.1). The meeting also aims to discuss the implementation of decisions taken by the eighth Meeting of the Parties (Nur-Sultan, 10-12 October 2018), prepare for the second reporting exercise under the Convention and on Sustainable Development Goal indicator 6.5.2, including by reviewing the draft Guide to reporting under the Convention and in contribution to SDG indicator 6.5.2. Moreover, the Working Group will discuss the Convention’s global opening and ongoing and future activities, e.g. on water allocation and financing transboundary water cooperation.

All countries will be invited to share their comments, views and ideas regarding the above. Active participation by Parties and non-Parties in the meeting will therefore be crucial. The meeting will include a dedicated session on the exchange of experience among focal points to the Water Convention, so focal points are strongly encouraged to attend.

Participation and registration

The working languages will be Arabic, English, French, Russian and Spanish.

The meeting is open to experts representing governmental authorities, joint bodies, non-governmental as well as international organizations and other interested stakeholders, from the academia or the private sector.
