Pathways Project Stakeholder Consultation Workshop: National Sustainable Energy Action Plans & Scenarios for Central Asia

12 - 14 June 2018

American University for Central Asia, Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan

The Pathways to Sustainable Energy project targets all of UNECE’s 56 member States across North America, Europe and Central Asia. As part of the policy dialogues, sub-regional workshops are to be organized. Stakeholder consultations on the scenario development and the policy options will be organized in different sub-regions with the aim to strengthen the modeling and conceptual processes during 2018 and 2019.

This workshop is the first sub-regional workshop, and is focused on Central Asia. The objective of the sub-regional workshops is to discuss relevant findings of the modeling work undertaken by partnering organizations Fraunhofer, IIASA and PNNL. The consultations will direct the formulation of scenarios, metrics and sustainable energy target definition, and shape the projects sub-regional and/or technological deep-dives. This consultation workshop in Kyrgyzstan is the first opportunity for the modeling team to present results to the Central Asian sub-region.

In addition, the workshop will present results of the study on best practices on sustainable energy for Kyrgyzstan prepared under the United Nations Development account project “Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All) in Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia”. Further discussion on development of national sustainable energy policies in Kyrgyzstan will help country to assess best practices’ applicability to the national circumstances and develop national models for improvement of sustainable energy policies.
