Workshop "Measuring Progress: Achieving Smarter Cities"

Organizers: Geospatial Media and Communications and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe

Geospatial Media and UNECE will organize a two-day dialogue forum titled "Measuring Progress: Achieving Smarter Cities". The workshop will discuss the tools and methodologies to measure progress towards smarter and more sustainable cities. Particular focus will be given to the use of geospatial technologies in land administration. The UNECE initiative on smart and sustainable cities, “United Smart Cities: Smart urban solutions for transition and developing countries” and other successful smart cities initiatives from across the world will be also presented.

This event is part of the Geospatial World Forum, an annual international conference and exhibition, which supports dialogue geospatial technologies and their role in promoting economic and social development. Organized in India (2007, 2009 and 2011), the Netherlands (2012 and 2013), Switzerland (2014) and now in Portugal, this global platform brings together more than 1,000 delegates from over 80 countries deliberating on geospatial technologies and their role in promoting sustainable development. This year with the theme CONVERGENCE: Policies + Practices + Processes via PPP, the conference aims to address the need for greater coordination among policy-makers, technology providers and users to benefit the industry. In addition it will highlight geospatial workflows as an enabler for successful PPPs by facilitating more informed decision making among the stakeholders.
