The proposed application of UNFC-2009 to renewable energy resources should work for geothermal energy. It should be noted that lower grade geothermal resources will generally be extracted at rates higher than they are replenished, but that with time after extraction the temperature will rebound. This may impact considerations on resource and project extent. Exact definitions and/or guidelines will be required for the application of the scheme to geothermal projects, including bridging documents to existing resource classification schemes. This includes what should be reported - energy in place, recoverable energy, converted energy.
