Organized within the context of the UNECE’s support of the Aid-for-Trade (AfT) processes in the UNECE/UNESCAP Special Programme for Central Asia (SPECA) countries, this Conference will be held at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Geneva on 10-11 July 2013 back-to-back with the Fourth Global Review (4GR) of AfT that will take place at the World Trade Organization (WTO) from 8 to10 July 2013.
The conference is meant to serve as an executive forum for exchanging views and charting the next steps for the implementation of the “AfT Roadmap for SPECA”, as envisaged by the Baku Ministerial Declaration of December 2010. The conference will be preceded by a meeting on the morning of 10 July to brief SPECA member countries on: progress made in supporting the implementation of the AfT Roadmap, including the revision and updating of national matrices; provide participants with information to strengthen the AfT monitoring and evaluation processes in their respective country; and conclude with an agreement on the next steps to be taken.
The Conference focuses on key trade policy issues and development challenges that confront enterprises and policy makers in countries with economies in transition, particularly in relation to trade facilitation, food security and linking land-locked countries to markets.
The Conference is structured so that all SPECA representatives have the opportunity to provide their views on the AfT initiative and share their experiences with other countries in the UNECE region. The results from these small group discussions will be presented as background information to a regional forum this autumn, and used by UNECE intergovernmental bodies as input to further discussions on this issue.
