The session will focus on:

• The draft Action Plan for the Forest Sector in a Green Economy, which is the outcome of extensive consultations with all stakeholders in the forest sector. Delegates to the Timber Committee and the European Forestry Commission are invited to review the draft Action Plan, which was updated to integrate inputs gathered through the consultation process, and to submit it for approval to Metsä2013, the joint meeting of the TC and the EFC, to take place in Rovaniemi, Finland, from 9 to 13 December 2013.

• The draft Joint Programme of Work 2014-17 for the Timber Committee and the European Forestry Commission, which was discussed by the Timber Committee in October 2012. The draft Joint Programme of Work was updated to reflect comments received and delegates are expected to review it and submit it to Metsä2013 for approval

Furthermore, participants of the special session will be informed about:

• The results of the ECE review and its implications on the work programme of the ECE-FAO Forestry and Timber Section. The meeting will also be informed of other on-going processes, should they have a bearing on the discussion on future joint work of ECE and FAO.

• The outcome of the 35th Session of the Joint FAO/UNECE Working Party on Forest Statistics, Economics and Management (23-25 April 2013). Delegates to the special session are invited to discuss the recommendations and reflect those that are relevant in the draft Joint Programme of Work.
