Committee on Trade/International Trade Centre jointly organizes a high-level segment on how to increase the participation of transition economies in international trade?
Many countries that transitioned from planned to open economies have succeeded in achieving economic growth. Very few, however, have been able to take full advantage of the opportunities for economic development offered by trade. Even fewer have succeeded in diversifying their economies in order to better ensure long-term, sustainable growth.
This high-level segment aims to support an interactive dialogue between stakeholders from the public and the private sectors on how to enable these countries create the required institutional set-up and conditions for stimulating trade-led development. The results of this dialogue will provide input and guidance to the work of the Committee on Trade during the coming year, including future trade needs assessments and related follow-up activities.
