As a result of the UNECE Reform Process adopted in December 2005, the Industrial
Restructuring and Enterprise Development programme of the Industrial
Restructuring, Energy and Enterprise Development Division (IREEDD) was
discontinued and a new Sustainable Energy
Division was established.
The programme of work and activities undertaken in Industrial
Restructuring and Enterprise Development were focused primarily on three main
areas:
|
|
the legal, regulatory and policy
framework governing industry and, more broadly, the private sector;
|
|
|
the market structure, conduct,
practices and performance of these sectors in contributing to the
sustainable economic development, growth and prosperity of ECE member
states; and
|
|
|
the provision of technical
assistance (capacity building and training) in these areas to countries
with economies in transition.
|
The constituencies for this work were: government officials and regulatory
authorities responsible for legal, regulatory, policy and corporate issues of
direct relevance to industry and the private sector; officials from private and
state-owned enterprises affected by government measures and policies; and
international governmental and non-governmental organizations, including
industry and professional associations, active in those areas.
