Bulletin of Housing Statistics
for Europe and North America
|
The secretariat of the Committee
on Human Settlements publishes a bulletin biennially
on housing statistics whose general purpose is
to shed light on the housing situation in Europe.
The first Bulletin
came out in 1959 and it comprised 14 statistical
tables relating to the latest census period or
to the past ten years (1948-1957). They covered:
(a) Population and housing situation;(b) Dwelling
construction;(c) Labour and building materials
supply;(d) Prices, costs and rents.
Since its first issue, the Bulletin
has been constantly revised and enlarged. The
Committee on Human Settlements decided to discontinue
publication of the Bulletin on paper.
Rather, it was agreed that it should be posted
on the ECE web site instead. The last printed
edition is the "Bulletin of Housing and
Building Statistics for Europe and North America
2000".
Most of the housing and building
data come from replies to the ECE housing questionnaire
supplied by national statistical offices. In addition
to being used for the Bulletin, the collected
data are also used for other ECE publications
and, in particular, for the programme of work
country
profiles on the housing sector. The secretariat
continues to streamline the contents of the Bulletin
to make the information more consistent and more
relevant.
