Every year, some 1.3 million people are killed and up to 50 million people are injured on the world’s roads. The first ever UN Road Safety Strategy was launched in New York headquarters and in Geneva on 28 February 2019, aiming to mitigate and prevent road traffic crashes which are a leading cause of death and serious injury for United Nations staff. The strategy, entitled “A Partnership for Safer Journeys”, is based on a “safe-system” approach that manages the complex interaction between speed, vehicles, road infrastructure and road-user behavior.


  • The policy segment of the 81st session of ITC was devoted to “Automation in Transport”, building on the Committee’s past achievements, current performance and future path, while highlighting the added value and future potential of automation.
  • Special Envoy and European Commissioner for Transport were on a joint mission to Jordan where they met with key road safety stakeholders at the highest level, including King of Jordan and the Prime-Minister.
