Safe Road - Safe Kids Global Road Safety Summit

The Special Envoy gave a keynote speech emphasizing the importance of road safety for children as well as provided an overview of the opportunities that the Global frameworks that provide an opportunity to advocate for child road safety, such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the New Urban Agenda, and potential United Nations Road Safety Trust Fund. The Conference was organized by an international NGO and attended by the World Health Organization, US government officials, private sector, the World Bank and other civil society organizations.

The Special Envoy met with the below stakeholders while at the United Nations to provide an overview of his mandate as well as recent and upcoming activities: 

  • Mr. David Nabarro, Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary-General on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Climate Change 
  • Mr. Stéphane Dujarric, Spokesperson for the Secretary-General 
  • H.E. Mr. François Delattre, Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations

Mrs. Anne-Claire Legendre, Consul General of France in New York

Mrs. Legendre, new Consul General of France in New York, welcomed the Special Envoy, who gave an overview of his recent and upcoming activities and introduced the terms of his mandate. The Special Envoy highlighted the global scale of the crisis and shared that road crashes are the number one cause of death among young people aged between 15 and 29 years worldwide.

H.E. Mr. Gérard Araud, French Ambassador to the United States

Mr. Araud welcomed the Special Envoy who in turn introduced the terms of his mandate. The Special Envoy provided an overview of his mandate and recent activities as well as briefed the Ambassador on his recent meeting with Mrs. Anne Claire Legendre, Consul General of France in New York.
