Banking, insurance and financial statistics

Review paper by the International Monetary Fund (IMF)

In-depth review of banking, insurance and finance statistics
The Bureau reviewed banking, insurance and financial statistics in November 2012, noted that many initiatives exist in this area and are well coordinated, but there would be room for further alignment of concepts and methods and strengthening cooperation between national statistical offices and central banks.
Outcome of the review
The Bureau decided not to launch new CES work in the area as it is covered by related initiatives.
Related initiatives
Cooperation between statistical offices and central banks is promoted through a one-day joint meeting of the OECD Working Party on Financial Statistics and the Working Party on National Accounts.

The European Central Bank (ECB) leads the development of statistics on monetary financial institutions, financial intermediaries, securities, financial stability, financial integration, insurance corporations and pension funds etc. ECB is setting up a register of large banking and insurance groups which would be interoperable with the Eurostat Euro-Groups Register for enterprise groups.
