We exchange best practices, collect and disseminate data and develop guidance to improve statistics on economic growth and employment, for example in national accounts, globalization, prices, business registers, labour mobility and quality of employment.

We carried out a review of challenges in measuring the information society and producing statistics on science, technology and innovation. The work continues under the United Nations Statistical Commission (UNSC) globally.

Cities face many challenges from globalization, population changes and ageing and effects of climatic events. We develop the use of official statistics for the measurement of extreme events and disasters in the UNECE region, and improve capacities to produce environmental indicators some of which relate to urban areas. | |

Oceanic resources are not a focus of UNECE work. However, the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA) is a comprehensive source of data for the analysis of sustainable use of natural resources. Official statistics are the cornerstone of just and inclusive societies. UNECE carries out activities to build countries' capacities in statistics and conducts Global Assessments of national statistical systems with EFTA and Eurostat to strengthen the institutional setting of official statistics.
We developed in a joint effort an international classification of crime for statistical purposes to enable the production of internationally comparable information on just and safe societies.

We promote effective collaboration among member States and partner organizations to develop the measurement of progress towards SDGs. We build on the international network of statisticians working under the Conference of European Statisticians.
We develop standards and tools to modernize statistical production and find efficiencies so that statistical offices can respond to new information needs and the challenge of reporting on SDGs.
We build capacity of member States with developing statistical systems to increase significantly the availability of high-quality, timely and reliable disaggregated data. | |
