UNECE will strengthen its support to Turkmenistan’s development efforts through the implementation of the United Nations Partnership Framework for Development (UNPFD) for the period 2016-2020, which was officially signed today in Geneva.
In the next five years, UNECE will provide technical assistance to Turkmenistan through the follow up to the Global Assessment of National System of Official Statistics, conducting a study on the regulatory and procedural barriers to trade, strengthening national capacity in energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy, and in sustainable forest management.
More specifically, UNECE will contribute to achieving the following UNPFD outcomes:
- Quality data, aligned with international standards, is available to policy makers, legislators, and the interested public to monitor the major goals of National Programmes, the post-2015 SDGs, UNPFD and to formulate new national strategies and programmes;
- The national policy, legislative and institutional frameworks are aligned to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to promote sustainable practices on energy efficiency, the use of renewables, urban development and waste management;
- The national policy, legislative and institutional frameworks are responsive to climate change issues by promoting climate resilience, adaptation, climate risk management and disaster risk reduction measures at sector and community level;
- Strategies and simplified regulations are in place to promote high quality inclusive employment through sustainable economic diversification.
The UNPFD development partners are the following resident and regional based United Nations Organisations: UNDP, UNESCO, UNFPA, UNHCR, UNICEF, UNODC, OHCHR, WHO, UN Women, UNEP, UNECE, UNCTAD.
