This Discussion Paper contains a summary of the work done by the Team of Specialists on "Multiple Use Forestry". The Team met formally three times between 1996 and 2000, in the course of which over 50 papers were presented, working groups reported and more than 20 updated country returns were received. Some 40 countries participated in the discussions. This paper provides a synoptic overview and a number of additional reference papers on current Multiple Use Forestry.
Recommendations focus particularly on suggestions for more attention to social participation, a closer look at opportunities for increased use of the forest by the public, the need for more monitoring in multiple uses and multidisciplinary involvement.
