On the same week, the joint session of the UNECE Committee on Forests and the Forest Industry and the FAO European Forestry Commission will take place in the city of Rovaniemi, Finland. The meeting is called METSÄ2013, as metsä means forest in Finnish. The organizers of European Forest Week and METSÄ2013 encourage wide participation and involvement of government officials from forest and non-forest sectors as well as representatives of international, regional and national organizations that deal with forest-related issues in Europe, including NGOs, the private sector, schools and academic institutions.

It also provides local players an opportunity to have a preliminary glance of the variety of side events and activities to take place during METSÄ2013, and to interact with the organizers of the joint session.
The briefing event will be followed by a Policy Dialogue with the Finnish forest sector. Ms. Marja Kokkonen from the Finnish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry will provide insights on Finnish forest policy and Ms. Paola Deda and Mr. Dominique Reeb will introduce the contribution of the UNECE/FAO work to the forest sector in UNECE region.
