However, such packagings should be capable of retaining liquids and contain sufficient absorbent material to absorb the entire amount of liquid present. Following amendments to the second sentence of 6.14.7 (now 6.14.8) by the SubCommittee, the drafting of the present third sentence does not quite follow on from the second sentence. Y&8Proposal: It is proposed that the second and third sentences of the existing paragraph 6.14.7, renumbered as paragraph 6.14.8 in ST/SG/AC.10/R.443, be amended to read: Yr*8T #.s. GE.94 3 3 /a:\R.498* Z0Z0Z014t#!t#5jv? !?#m> "Such waste should be transported in leakproof packagings or IBCs, in accordance with the provisions of Chapters 9 or 16 for solids, at the Packing Group II performance level, provided there is sufficient absorbent material to absorb the entire amount of liquid present and the packaging is capable of retaining liquids. Waste containing unabsorbed liquid should be transported in rigid packagings or IBCs, in accordance with the provisions of Chapters 9 or 16 for liquids, at the Packing Group II performance level." In addition, this paragraph concerning clinical waste should always be the final one in section 6.14 and it would, therefore, now be 6.14.9. The current 6.14.9 would become 6.14.8. Y 8PARAGRAPH 6.9.6(b) Y 8 It is also proposed that paragraph 6.9.6(b) be amended to delete the reference to specimens Y+8transported for the purpose of routine screening tests or initial diagnosis for other than the presence of pathogens. This reference is now considered unnecessary following the introduction of WHO risk groups in Chapter 6 and, particularly, in this paragraph. It is also potentially confusing in that it now seems to introduce a different concept from the presence or otherwise, of pathogens described in subparagraphs (a), (b) and (c). Y8Proposal: Y8 Delete the second sentence of 6.9.6(b) so that it reads simply: "those where a relatively low probability exists that pathogens of risk group 2 or 3 are present," ______________________________
