Promoting Innovation-based entrepreneurial opportunities in the UNECE region

International Conference "Promoting Innovation-Based Entrepreneurial Opportunities in the UNECE Region"
Geneva, 28-29 September 2009

Geneva, 17 September 2009 --

innovation

The global economic crisis has radically changed the financial landscape in the UNECE economies. The crisis forced a broad reconsideration of how economic and regulatory policies can foster economic dynamism while preventing risks to stability. Anti-crisis packages have included in many cases measures addressing longer-term issues, including sustainability issues and the promotion of knowledge-based development.

Can innovation policies help the UNECE economies in facing the new challenges on the road to recovery? How can government actions targeting knowledge-based development be made more efficient? How has the crisis affected the business environment for innovation-based entrepreneurship? What can be done to address the challenges of early-stage financing for innovation in the current environment? Does the crisis incite innovation partnership or rivalry and what is the role for collaborative innovation networks? What new forms of collaboration between the public and private sector have emerged and how can international cooperation help in this?

These and other related issues will be addressed and discussed at this International Conference by high-level policy-makers, corporate executives, senior academics, representatives of business associations and other practitioners and experts from the UNECE member States.

The International Conference will be held on 28-29 September 2009 and is part of the agenda of the fourth session of the UNECE Committee on Economic Cooperation and Integration.
