Pressing urban challenges of today
UNECE Ministerial Meeting in Geneva
Geneva, 12 September 2006 -- Last year a number of countries experienced
protest and unrest by residents of distressed urban districts. Against
the background of these events, the United Nations Economic Commission
for Europe (UNECE) will hold a meeting of all ministers responsible for
housing, urban planning and land management in Geneva on 19 September 2006
(Palais des Nations, Salle VII, 10:00-18:00). Ministers will discuss the
urban housing challenges that many countries are facing today, as well
as policy approaches for tackling these challenges. The panel will focus
on social and economic integration through human settlements development
policies and the management of the multi-family housing sector. The meeting
is expected to adopt a ministerial declaration.
