UNECE TER Project Seminar on
railway infrastructure and track maintenance
A UNECE-TER Seminar on railway infrastructure, track maintenance equipment
and organization of work on a construction site was jointly organized with
Sycafer and Vossloh Cogifer on 21 and 22 October 2003 in Alsace, France, and
was supported by the Union of European Professional Railway Engineers (UEEIV).
The Seminar offered the participants the possibility to get
acquainted with the latest developments in railway infrastructure projects
in France and, particularly, the modernization of standard lines and construction
of new TGV sections. Developments in fastening devices, construction of ballasted
or concreted new tracks, maintenance and renewal of railway networks, the
latest machines for track maintenance and renewal as, for example, the tamping-lining
and levelling machines, safety products and signalling systems, manufacture
of various types of rails, weldings and concrete sleepers etc., were also
among the topics that were introduced.
At Cronenburg-Strasbourg, the participants visited a site
of CTS for tram-train links; at Luneville, the Cogifer turn-outs factory and
the construction site for the refurbishment of track on the line Paris-Strasbourg
(night work) and at Hayange, the CORUS factory, with furnaces for manufacturing
tracks and metal sleepers.
Representatives from 11 TER member countries attended the
Seminar and technical visits.
This event was one of the UNECE TER Project activities supporting
the transfer of know-how and expertise, as well as sharing of European experiences
in the railway sector.
