UNECE International Seminar on E-Government

in collaboration with the Italian Government and the
Scuola Superiore della Pubblica Administrazione (SSPA)

Royal Palace, Caserta, Italy
13-14 December 2002

The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe will hold the International Seminar on E-Government Development with special reference to transition economies in collaboration with the Italian Government and the Scuola Superiore della Pubblica Administrazione (SSPA) from Italy in the context of the preparatory work for the World Summit on the Information Society to be held in 2003.

The UNECE E-Government initiative aims to set a strategic direction for the way the public sector of transition economies will transform itself by implementing new administration models which exploit the possibilities of new technology. The primary objectives of the workshop are to assess national developments in the ECE region compared to the international state of the art and an analysis of the conditions and constraints for a successful implementation and identification of required actions to be recommended for the administration in the region.

In close collaboration with the Scuola Superiore della Pubblica Administrazione (SSPA), the seminar will focus on the following subjects:

  • Strategic orientations and the actual electronic supply of public information by the administration;
  • Identification of international best practice cases in terms of transferability to the region;
  • Investigation of organisational and technical factors, which are critical to successful implementation;
  • Development of options for possible pilot projects based on indicators of demand and international experiences;
  • Identification of the needs for capacity building and training.

Participants include key decision-makers and high-level officials from all over the region; people who will provide the framework by fostering infrastructure developments for e-government; international business leaders with years of experience; the major players in e-government implementation who will set the pace for the future; representatives from international organisations and the European Union who assist transition economies and help them confront the new challenges.

The seminar will take place at the Royal Palace, Caserta, Italy on 13-14 December 2002. The seminar will start at 09.00 on 13 December. The provisional programme of the seminar and the registration form can be obtained through e-mail or fax at:
