Mrs Danuta Hubner
leaves the UN
Geneva, 1 November 2001
On 31 October 2001,
Mrs Danuta Hubner, Under-Secretary General
of the United Nations, Executive Secretary
of the United Nations Economic Commission
for Europe (UNECE), left the Organization
to become member of the Polish Government.
Mrs Hubner joined the
UNECE in November 1998 as Deputy Executive
Secretary, and was appointed as Executive
Secretary in June 2000.
In the Polish Government
Mrs Hubner will be First Deputy Minister
of Foreign Affairs and Secretary of
State in charge of European integration.
The Secretary-General
of the United Nations, Mr Kofi Annan,
has asked Mr Paolo Garonna, Deputy
Executive Secretary of the UNECE, to
be Officer-in-Charge pending the appointment
of a new Executive Secretary.
