INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON SOIL
DECONTAMINATION TECHNOLOGIES (Paris, April 1999)

Call for papersA 3-day International Workshop on Analysis, Methodology of
Treatment and Remediation of Contaminated Soils will be held
in Paris on 13-15 April 1999 to examine the problems of
remediating chemically contaminated soil. It will take place in
parallel with an exhibition of state-of-the-art decontamination
technologies by firms specializing in these areas. The workshop
is part of a United Nations Economic Commission for Europe
(UN/ECE) project on cleaning up sites polluted by chemicals
and/or chemical products in eastern and central Europe and will
be held in conjunction with the first Biennial Show of
Technologies and Industrial Processes. The French Association Interchimie is responsible for
the organization of the event, in collaboration with Ademe
(French Agency for Environment and Energy Management), EPE
(Enterprises for the Environment), Ineris (French National
Institute for the Environment and Industrial Risks), UIC
(Chemical Industry Association of France) and UPDS (French
Professional Association for Soil Decontamination). The workshop
is being held under the auspices of the UN/ECE and the patronage
of the Minister for Industry and the Minister for the
Environment. Topics will include:
- Risk assessment
- Investigation techniques
- Treatment methodology for remediation
- Measures for minimizing exposure
- Decontamination strategies
- Legal, financial and communication aspects of clean-up
One half day will be reserved for visiting the Biennial
exhibition, with a focus on soil decontamination technologies and
on methods for soil analysis.
