What does the UNECE do to improve official statistics?

The UNECE Statistical programme covers more than thirty activities to improve official statistics in the region. The Conference of European Statisticians meets annually to decide on the priorities for the forthcoming year. Activities conducted by the UNECE Statistical Division include: developing statistical standards and guidelines; providing mechanisms for statistical offices to exchange experiences; and helping countries, through technical assistance programs, to improve their national statistical system. Areas of work include national accounts, economic statistics, gender statistics, social and demographic statistics, sustainable development, data collection, processing and dissemination, technical cooperation and managing official statistics.
