Seminar on Partnerships in Forestry
Focal point: Jorge Najera, Tel:
917 32 40
|
Forestry in
Europe and North America, as in other parts of the world, is confronted
with new challenges in the twenty-first century. The level and diversity
of the goods and services needed and demanded by society continues to
increase. Forests are expected to contribute more to environmental protection
and to preserving bio-diversity, as well as to accommodate rising numbers
of visitors. At the same time, demand for timber is rising, albeit slowly.
The public also wants to have a say in the way forests are managed. Sustainable
forest management and multiple-use forestry have thus become complex objectives
to define, let alone to deliver. Partnerships in forest policy and management
can make this task easier and lead to better outcomes. Web site: http://www.unece.org/trade/timber/docs/jc-sem/sem-53/sem-53.htm
