Pollutant Release and Transfer Registers Drafting Group

The drafting group will continue to develop a revised text of the draft PRTR Protocol to assist the working group on PRTRs in its task of preparing such a protocol with a view for adoption in Kiev (May 2003). In order to secure the long-term financial basis for the core activities under the Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution, Parties have engaged in a negotiation on an instrument to share the international coordinating cost of these activities. The meeting will negotiate on a preliminary draft protocol on long-term financing of core activities under the Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution, aiming at resolving the few issues still outstanding. It will prepare, as an alternative, a draft decision and recommendation that would facilitate voluntary financing.
