Internet Enterprise Development

The emergence and widespread adoption of new information and communication technologies (ICTs) worldwide since the 1990s has led to a radical re-organization of companies, an overhaul of corporate strategies and work practices and the emergence of new types of business activities. This has required continuous changes in regulation on the part of governments. In this process, sustainable Internet enterprise development, supported by a conducive regulatory environment, has become a precondition for the continuation of strong economic growth and job creation in Europe and North America (the UNECE region), as well as in other regions. 

The Team of Specialists on Internet Enterprise Development (TSIED) promotes enterprise development in the UNECE region by taking advantage of the possibilities offered by the new ICTs, including the Internet. To this end it organizes educational seminars, assesses the readiness of countries in the UNECE region to the new economic and technological realities, issues publications, formulates best practices for use of national governments and undertakes specific targeted projects. 

Government officials, executives of ICT companies, researchers, academics and NGO representatives participate actively in the activities of the TSIED. The Team was established in 2000. The work of the Team of Specialists is steered by its Bureau, which consists of representatives from western, central and eastern Europe, the CIS and North America.
