Ad
hoc Expert Group on POPs
Following
adoption of the 1998 Protocol on POPs, Parties to
the Convention felt that some further assessment work
on POPs would be appropriate prior to entry into force
of the Protocol. To this end the Executive Body, at
its seventeenth session, decided to establish an Expert
Group on POPs under the leadership of the Netherlands.
The outputs of the Expert Group 2000-2003 are summarized
below. The Expert Group completed its work in 2003.

Documents
used for the selection of substances for the POPs
Protocol initially could be useful for Parties that
were preparing proposals for additional substances. The documents reflect the state
of knowledge of 1995/96 and may also be a useful historical
record to make the selection of POPs transparent.
They provide a database on individual substances
and much of the information remains relevant. The documents also show the gaps in knowledge
