Five years into the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development the Conference aims to highlight the relevance of ESD to all of education; promote international exchange on ESD; carry out a stock-taking of the implementation of the UN Decade, and develop strategies for the way ahead.

The 7-th Subregional Central Asian Conference on ESD is dedicated to the self-evaluation and monitoring of the ESD process in Central Asian countries, and aims to assist countries in their preparation for the mandatory national reporting exercise on progress in the implementation of the UNECE Strategy for ESD and the United Nations Decade of ESD, to take place in 2010.

The workshop is a follow-up of the previously arranged ESD-workshops:

=>Drivers and Barriers for Learning for Sustainable Development in Pre-School, School and Teacher Education” (2006);
=>The role of early childhood education in a sustainable society (2007);
=>The Right to Knowledge - Public Learning for Sustainable Development - Laboratory for Democratic Learning (2007).

The aim with the workshop is to prepare a set of recommendations as a contribution to the declaration of the UNESCO World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development in 2009. More information.

Under the high patronage of UNESCO and in the context of the French Presidency of the European Union, France will held a conference, gathering the French, European, Mediterranean and Francophone actors on themes relating to education, training, information and awareness-raising in the field of environment and sustainable development.
