Bureau of the UNECE Steering Committee on Education for Sustainable Development
The Steering Committee, at its first meeting (December, 2005) elected to its Bureau representatives of the following member States: Canada, France, Georgia, Greece, Italy, Kyrgyzstan, the Republic of Moldova, Norway and Serbia and Montenegro. The Chair (Greece) and Vice-Chair (Republic of Moldova) of the Committee served in their respective capacities in the Bureau. One representative from each of the following stakeholders was invited to participate in the Bureau as an observer: UNESCO, regional environmental centres, European ECO-Forum and
Environmental and School Initiatives
(ENSI).
The Steering Committee, after completion of the first phase of the implementation of the UNECE Strategy on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), again held an election of officers at its third meeting. It elected representatives from the following member States as members of the Bureau: Armenia, Canada, France, Greece (Chair), Italy, Kyrgyzstan (Vice-Chair), Norway, Romania and Serbia.
Meetings
The eighth meeting of the Bureau was held on 9 December in Geneva and worked on preparing the sixth Steering Committee meeting. The meeting in particular focused on advancing the draft work plan for the implementation of phase III of the Strategy.

Due to the very busy time and many ESD-related activities and events taking place during this time of the year, the seventh meeting of the Bureau, initially scheduled on 20 November 2008, will be conducted through consultations by e-mail and, if needed, through a telephone conference. The Bureau will work on preparing the fourth meeting of the Steering Committee (Geneva, 19-20 February 2009). The documents will be posted on the website as they become available.

The sixth meeting of the Bureau took place in Geneva on 1 April 2007, back-to-back to the third meeting of the Steering Committee. Following the Committee's meeting the Bureau discussed in more details the implementaiton of the agreed activities.

The fifth meeting of the Bureau took place in Geneva on 7 December 2007. This meeting focused on preparing the third meeting of the Steering Committee, including its format and substantive content. For more information please see the documents in the table below.

The fourth meeting of the Bureau took place on 19 February 2007, in Geneva. The meeting considered the following issues: session on ESD to be organised at the Ministerial Conference "Environment for Europe" (Belgrade, 10-12 October 2007): the draft ministerial statement; a first outline of the report on the progress in the implementation of the Strategy, prepared by a consultant; and a proposal on the panellists for an informal panel discussion at the Belgrade Conference. The second meeting of the Bureau took place on 23 February 2006, in Geneva. The Bureau addressed all issues that were mandated by the Steering Committee and submitted the proposal on the Belgrade Conference (En Fr Ru) (through the Executive Committee) to the Working Group of Senior Officials that met on 29-30 June 2006 in Geneva, for its further consideration.
