UNECE has been selected as the recipient of the 2010 Regional Award of the International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA). The award will be presented at IAIA's annual conference event in Geneva in April 2010. "UNECE has been selected for this honour because of its major contributions to the regional development of impact assessment, particularly through its role in the development and implementaion of the Convention on Environmental Impact Assessment in a Transboundary Context and the related Protocol on Strategic Environmental Assessment. Practice under the Espoo Convention has strengthened EIA application within the Parties as well as protected human health and the environment in countries that otherwise would have been adversely impacted."
