2017

On 13 July 2017, the Secretary-General of the United Nations communicated that the Convention on Road Traffic, 1949, retrospectively took effect for Slovenia as of 25 June 1991 (the date of State succession) (map of contracting parties).

The Global Forum for Road Traffic Safety (WP.1) issues a brochure on International Driving Permit Categories (available in ArabicChineseFrenchRussian and Spanish as well) which recommends reconciliations of the differences between the International Driving Permit categories in the 1968 Convention on Road Traffic and the corresponding definitions in the EU Driving Licence Directive (2006/126/EC of 20 December) 2006).

Iraq accedes to the Convention on Road Traffic, of 8 November 1968 (map of contracting arties and Depositary Notification).

A new publication: "Together with UNECE on the road to safety" is now available to mark the mid-term review of the Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety. It offers a comprehensive overview of specific activities and initiatives undertaken by UNECE Inland Transport Committee to address challenges faced by road safety community and covers in detail the work carried out under 11 ITC road safety goals.

The Republic of Moldova accedes to the Convention on Road Signs and Signals, of 8 November 1968 (map), the Protocol on Road Markings, additional to the European Agreement supplementing the Convention on Road Signs and Signals, 1973 (map) and the European Agreement supplementing the Convention on Road Signs and Signals, 1971 (map).

The Inland Transport Committee of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe in partnership with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways of India and Institute of Road Traffic Education, and in collaboration with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, organized an inaugural "Europe - Asia Road Safety Forum" on 4 December 2013 followed by a session of the Working Party on Road Traffic Safety (WP.1) on 5-6 December 2013 in New Delhi.
