Review paper by Italy and the Netherlands
In-depth review on justice and crime by Italy and the Netherlands
The Bureau reviewed justice and crime statistics in February 2006 focusing on finding ways to resolve the identified problems and to propose follow-up actions to improve international work on crime statistics.
Outcome of the review
A CES/United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Task Force published a Manual on Victimization Surveys, endorsed by the Conference in June 2009.
In October 2009, the Bureau set up a UNECE/UNODC Task Force on classifying crimes. As a result, the Conference endorsed the Principles and framework for an international classification of crimes for statistical purposes in June 2012.
Related initiatives
In 2013, the UN Statistical Commission approved a plan to finalize an international classification of crimes for statistical purposes by 2015 using the results of the CES/UNODC Task Force’s work.
