About the Industrial Accidents Convention

Industrial accidents can have severe consequences on human health and the environment, including in other affected countries. The accidents in Schweizerhalle, Switzerland, and Baia Mare, Romania, have brought this message home.  The Convention on the Transboundary Effects of Industrial Accidents helps Parties to prevent industrial accidents that can have transboundary effects and to prepare for, and respond to, accidents if they occur. The film on the Industrial Accidents Convention, launched at the 8th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (3-5 December 2014, Geneva), shows the “UN in action” in the field of industrial safety. In his  introductory message to the film, the UN Secretary General stresses that while the Convention has been successful, "more needs to be done". Read more
