The meetings of the Working Group on Monitoring and Assessment and the Working Group on Integrated Water Resources Management were held as a joint meeting from Tuesday, 3 July until Wednesday, 4 July in the Palais des Nations in Geneva. The working languages were English, Russian and French. In addition, a Core Group meeting on the National Policy Dialogues was held on Monday, 2 July in Geneva.
The main objective of the joint meeting of the Working Group on Integrated Water Resources Management and the Working Group on Monitoring and Assessment was to review the implementation of the workplan for 2010–2012 and to agree on a draft workplan for 2013–2015 as well as on any other decisions and proposals to be submitted for discussion and adoption at the sixth session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Convention (Rome, Italy, 28–30 November 2012).
This meeting was paperless. Delegates were kindly asked to bring their own copies.

The event debated the different dimensions of equitable access to water and sanitation, based on the findings of the recent publication No one left behind: Good practices to ensure equitable access to water and sanitation in the pan-European region.
The event was co-organized by the French Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva, the French Ministry of Social Affairs and Health and UNECE.
