International Network of Basin Organizations (INBO)

Preparation of a "Handbook for Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) in Transboundary Basins of Rivers, Lakes, and Aquifers"

INBO and its partners committed to developing a new Handbook about IWRM in the transboundary water context, based on the experiences of the existing Transboundary Basin Organizations around the world. A first similar handbook on “IWRM at basin level” was successfully developed in 2008 and presented in Istanbul at the World Water Forum 5 (WWF 5) in 2009. As much as possible, the new handbook will address the practical and concrete issues for the better management of water sources shared by several countries.

Progress reports:

As of the 2013 report, this action is listed as "Completed". The new handbook was finalized at the end of 2011 and was introduced in Marseille in March 2012 at the WWF 6 conference.

To be submitted.

Challenges and lessons learned:

Some of the challenges that INBO experienced during the implementation of this action include gathering examples of good practices in IWRM in transboundary basins around the world and encouraging basin organizations to contribute.
