Eighth session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Water Convention

10 - 12 October 2018

Hot topic: Sharing experiences on climate change adaptation in transboundary basins

Date and time: Thursday 11 October, 1.30-2.45 pm
Location: Astana EXPO Congress Center, Room n°2. Amu Darya
Languages: English, French and Russian

Description

As noted in the Fifth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC, 2014), 93% of the impacts associated with climate change will affect our societies via the water cycle, for instance through droughts, floods & desertification.
The resulting water crisis manifests itself in current and future social, economic, environmental and migration crises, affecting health, water, food and energy security as well as impacting negatively economic growth, all of which are essential components to achieve sustainable development goals.
Addressing these challenges can be achieved through optimal use of water resources at the scale of the transboundary basins of rivers, lakes and aquifers. This session will present the benefits of transboundary cooperation for adaptation to climate change.
