Draft guidance on land-use planning, the siting of hazardous activities and related safety aspects (ECE/CP.TEIA/WG.1/2016/INF.2) was presented first at the Joint UNECE Workshop on safety and land-use planning (Industrial Accidents Convention, Protocol on Strategic Environmental Assessment, Committee on Housing and Land Management), held on 13 April 2016 in Geneva.

First draft

The draft comprised the following elements.

Part A (legal and policy)
 - Part A Annex (including survey responses by country and legal requirements of various relevant international instruments)
Part B (technical, including annex on technical aspects, definitions and basic concepts of risk analysis of industrial hazardous activities in the context land-use planning)

Final draft

Part A, together with some annex material, has become the draft legal and policy guidance on land-use planning, the siting of hazardous activities and related safety aspects (ECE/MP.EIA/WG.2/2016/10-ECE/CP.TEIA/2016/8), was considered by the ninth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Industrial Accidents Convention and the sixth meeting of the Working Group on EIA and SEA under the Espoo Convention and its Protocol on SEA.

Part B, together with some annex material, has become the draft technical guidance on land-use planning, the siting of hazardous activities and related safety aspects (ECE/CP.TEIA/2016/9), was considered by the same two meetings.

The respective governing bodies will decide on the possible welcoming, adoption or endorsement of the guidance documents and their possible publication.
