Highlights of the First Session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Protocol
The first session of the Meeting of the Parties to the 2003 Kiev Protocol on Pollutant Release and Transfer Registers took place on 20-22 April 2010.
Despite difficulties caused by disruption to air travel resulting from the eruption of an Icelandic volcano, the meeting went ahead as planned. The Meeting adopted the Geneva Declaration and a set of decisions establishing the framework for future activities under the Protocol, ie. the Rules of Procedure, the Review of Compliance, Financial Arrangements, Reporting and Implementation mechanisms.
The Meeting established the Working of the Parties and a compliance mechanism. It also elected its Bureau and the members of the Compliance Committee.
