The 2nd EPR of Uzbekistan has just started
In June 2008, the secretariat went to Tashkent to initiate the second review of Uzbekistan and define the content of the second review together with the national environmental authorities. Mr Alikhonov, Chairman of the State Committee for Nature Protection, and his staff had organized a series of meetings with experts and decision-makers of the State Committee and of many other ministries, in particular in the domains of environment, energy, agriculture, water, land management and protection, economy, etc. The structure of the report has been submitted to Uzbekistan for their comments. The work will continue in 2008-2009.
2nd EPR of Kyrgyzstan
The main EPR mission to Bishkek for the 2 nd EPR of Kyrgyzstan took place from 26 May to 5 June 2008. The secretariat with a team of ten international experts from Belarus, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Norway and Switzerland investigated on issues jointly selected with the country, in particular policymaking, planning, implementation and financing for environmental protection, water resource management, land protection, biodiversity conservation and sustainable management of forests (See structure of the report). The report is currently being drafted by the experts and the secretariat.
The 2nd EPR of Kazakhstan was examined by the EPR Expert Group on 17-18 April 2008 and peer reviewed by the Committee on Environmental Policy on 21 April 2008 in Geneva. The recommendations proposed in the draft report were discussed with a delegation of national experts headed by Vice-Minister Alzhan Braliev. The report, including the adopted recommendations, is available on our website in English. The translations into Russian and Kazakh languages will be available in the course of the summer. In October 2008, the report will be launched in Kazakhstan for the national authorities and the international community present in the country.
The launch event of the 2nd EPR of Ukraine, organized jointly with the launch of the Environment and Security (ENVSEC) regional report, took place on 26 February 2008 in Kiev and gathered a wide audience.
