The Working Group on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) is a subsidiary body to the Meeting of the Parties to the Convention and to the Meeting of the Parties to the Convention serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Protocol. It was established to assist in the implementation of the Convention and the Protocol and the management of the workplan (Convention decision V/5, Protocol decision I/5). The meetings of the Working Group are subject to the same Rules of Procedure (decision I/1) as the Meeting of the Parties.

The Working Group on EIA and SEA replaced in 2011 the Working Group on EIA, which was a subsidiary body to the Meeting of the Parties to the Convention only.

The following Vice-Chairs were elected in June 2011 (or subsequently nominated by the elected Parties):

• Mr. Piotr Otawski (Poland)
• Mr. Volodymyr Buchko (Ukraine)
• Mr. Georges Kremlis (European Commission)

The Chair is to be elected from among the Vice-Chairs at the first meeting of the Working Group (April 2012).
