“Building Bridges to the Future”
The Belgrade Conference took important decisions on a wide-range of issues related to environment and sustainable development, including sub-regional initiatives, strategies, guidelines and major programmes.
To facilitate the work during the Conference, compilation of summaries of documents for action by ministers (Category I) and of the background documents (Category II) were provided.
The Conference Proceedings, organized according to the agenda of the Conference (En, Fr, Ru), for each item include: a summary of the session, the official documents submitted for the discussion under this session and the statements made.

During the first day of the Belgrade Conference three plenary sessions and the roundtable for the NGOs and Ministers were held:
Official opening of the Conference (plenary session)
Assessment and implementation (plenary session):
- State of the environment and monitoring and assessment
- Implementation of multilateral environmental agreements and findings of UNECE Environmental Performance Reviews
Joint session on education for sustainable development (A joint session of environment and education ministers from member States that adopted the UNECE Strategy on Education for Sustainable Development in Vilnius (March 2005), and other interested member States).
Biodiversity (A roundtable of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and ministers from interested member States of the Council of Pan-European Biological and Landscape Diversity Strategy (PEBLDS) and the European ECO-Forum)

The second day of the Conference included sessions on:
Progress and perspectives in implementation of the Environment Strategy for countries of Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia, and of the Central Asia Initiative for Sustainable Development (plenary session and panel discussion);
Sounth-Eastern European perspectives (plenary session); and
two consecutive roundtables on:

On the last day of the Conference the session on the future of the "Environment for Europe" process was held where the future of the process was discussed and the Ministerial Declaration was adopted.
The Conference concluded its work with the Chair's summary that reflects the results of the discussions and was circulated to the participants.
