Effectiveness and impact of the UNECE Sustainable Energy sub-programme: “Review of the case studies of the application of best practices guidance for coal mine methane management”

In 2017 the work of the Group of Experts on Coal Mine Methane undertaken over the period of 1 January 2014 - 31 December 2016 was subject to evaluation by an independent expert.

The objective of this task was to assess the relevance of the Group's work to the implementation of the UNECE’s sub-programme on sustainable energy.

The evaluation measured effectiveness of the Group's actions and initiatives in enhancing capacities of the ECE Member States in safe, environmentally friendly, and economically viable coal mine methane management. By addressing the efficiency and sustainability of activities delivered throughout the period in question, it also provided guidance on how to maintain and replicate beneficial effects of the Group's work in the future.

The final document available below acknowledged the achieved goals and accomplishments, identified the lessons learned, revealed challenges and deficiencies requiring further attention, and developed practical recommendations on how to optimize Group’s prospective efforts.
