This publication contains documentation for the meeting which included, among other things, national reports prepared by the Governments of ECE Member States. It also presents an analysis by Mr. Tomas Frejka entitled ”Population and development issues in the UNECE region: the government's perspective“ on the key issues raised in the national reports. Three further documents are included: the (1) Conclusions (see below); (2) Research Areas, a non-negotiated document on research priorities for future regional co-operation in population analysis; and lastly the (3) Report of the Regional Population Meeting.

Conclusions

1999
[Sales No. E.99.II.E.15]

Negotiated and adopted during a plenary session of the Regional Population Meeting, the Conclusions presented in this document highlight future policy challenges to population developments and suggest options for policy actions. The Conclusions reflect the unprecedented demographic change in the ECE region where some of these challenges are specific to the groups of countries with market and transition economies.
