Ziad Hayek

Ziad Alexandre Hayek has 38 years of experience in Investment Banking, International Finance, Structured Finance, Project Finance, Corporate Governance, Corporate Strategy, Public Policy and International Development.

He is a global authority on Public-Private Partnership – Vice Chair of the UN Working Party on PPP; President of the World Association of PPP Units and Professionals; and, until he was nominated to be President of the World Bank in early 2019, Secretary General of Lebanon’s High Council for Privatization and PPP. 

Hayek is member of the Board of Trustees of USEK University, the Board of Directors of CAT International, the Investment Committee of YMCA World Alliance, and the governing boards of several NGOs on behalf of the Carlos Slim Foundation. 

Previously, Hayek was CEO of Lonbridge Associates (London), a boutique investment bank specializing in telecom technology and renewable energy; Senior Managing Director of Investment Banking at Bear Stearns (London and New York), where he helped establish the Firm’s European investment banking operations; Managing Director of Banque Indosuez Capital Latin America (Paris), where he was also President of Indosuez Mexico; Vice President of Salomon Brothers Inc. (New York), responsible for Northern Latin America and South Africa; and Vice President of Citibank NA, where he started out in the Middle East in Treasury, became Acting Treasurer for West Africa, structured finance specialist for Latin America and finally Head of the International Securitization Department within the International Corporate Finance Division in New York. 

Hayek was also a member of the US Council on Foreign Relations and a Senior Consultant to the Reagan Administration’s Enterprise Program.

He holds an MA in International Management from the University of Texas at Dallas and studied Business Administration at the University of Houston and at the Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico. 

Hayek is conversant with 11 languages. Fluent in five (Arabic, English, French, Portuguese and Spanish) and familiar with six others (Aramaic, German, Hebrew, Italian, Persian and Russian).
