UN/CEFACT

Introduction

The United Nations Centre for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business (UN/CEFACT) is a subsidiary, intergovernmental body of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) which serves as a focal point within the United Nations Economic and Social Council for trade facilitation recommendations and electronic business standards. It has global membership and its members are experts from intergovernmental organizations, individual countries' authorities and also from the business community.

In Focus

UN/CEFACT recently launched the revision of Recommendation 33, a tool that is used as a guidance on the establishment of a Single Window by most governments and international organizations. This Recommendation is a part of a series of recommendations on the topic that has been developing for more than 10 years, as well as other emerging projects that contribute to the implementation of SWs. These include methods of information exchange and new mechanisms.

23 October 2018: UN/CEFACT is pleased to launch a call for participation for the “Sustainable Textile and Leather Traceability and Transparency Project".  Improving traceability and transparency has become a key priority in the garment and footwear industry, in order to increase its ability to manage its value chains more effectively and sustainably. This project aims to bring together the main actors for the industry, including key players from international organisations, governments, private sector associations, NGOs and Accademia. 23 October 2018: UN/CEFACT is pleased to launch a call for participation for the “e-Quality Certificate Project.”  The objective of this project is to standardize the business processes, the business transactions and the information entities of request, the issuing and the exchange of the electronic quality certificate along the supply chain. 12 September 2018: UN/CEFACT is pleased to announce a 60-day public review of the Single Submission Portal Recommendation. If you would like to submit comments, please use the appropriate template provided on the Public Review page and send to the Project Editor on or before 12 November 2018.

22 July 2018: UN/CEFACT is pleased to launch a call for participation for the project “Internet of Things for Trade Facilitation”.
The possibility of connected devices collecting and connecting information to the rest of the international supply chain has generated a number of potential uses that can facilitate and drive efficiency, notably in trade, agriculture, climate control, water / energy management, healthcare, supply chain, etc. UN/CEFACT has just launched a project to study how this technology can be used to facilitate trade and related processes, how current UN/CEFACT deliverables can be used by IoT applications and study possible use cases for this technology.
