About CEFACT

Within the United Nations framework of the Economic and Social Council, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) serves as the focal point for trade facilitation recommendations and electronic business standards, covering both commercial and government business processes that can foster growth in international trade and related services.  In this context, the United Nations Centre for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business (UN/CEFACT) was established, as a subsidiary, intergovernmental body of the UNECE Committee on Trade, mandated to develop a programme of work of global relevance to achieve improved worldwide coordination and cooperation in these areas.

27 July 2017: The UN/CEFACT Bureau is happy to announce a call for candidatures for Domain Coordinators for the following groups: the TFIG Focal Point, the WTO-TFA Focal Point, the Cross-Border Management Domain, the e-Government Domain, the Specifications Domain, the Harmonization Focal Point, the Communication Team Focal Point, the BRS-RSM Harmonization Focal Point.
Domain Coordinators are nominated by the Bureau for a period of two years, renewable. The Terms of Reference of Domains and Domain Coordinators are available.

13 July 2017: This is to announce a 60-day public review until 11 September 2017 concerning the Cross Industry Scheduling Supply Chain Project. All eventual comments can be addressed using the prescribed template to Hisanao Sugamata. 

13 July 2017: UNECE Secretariat has released the 2017-1 UN/LOCODE directory

11 July 2017: UNECE is please to announce the creation of two new working groups, recently approved by the Executive Committee.
A Team of Specialists on Sustainable Fisheries has been established to promote, facilitate and support the implementation of the Fisheries Language for Universal Exchange (FLUX) developed within the UN/CEFACT Agriculture Domain. This is a major step in helping support the achievement of the UN Sustainable Goal 14 on conserving and sustainably using oceans, seas and marine resources.
An Advisory Group on the United Nations Code for Trade and Transport Locations (UN/LOCODE) has also been established to ensure the maintenance and development of UN/LOCODE. UN/LOCODEs are an integral part of electronic exchanges and facilitate the comprehension of places associated with international trade, this group shall ensure a consistent and coherent management of these codes.

11 July 2017: This is to announce a 60-day public review until 11 September 2017 concerning the BRS of the eCMR Project .  All eventual comments can be addressed using the prescribed template to Evginya Iafaev.

10 July 2017: UN/CEFACT is pleased to announce that former chair, Lance Thompson has integrated the UNECE Secretariat as Chief of UN/CEFACT Support Unit. The Bureau decided to have a rotating acting-chairmanship until the next elections in April 2018.

The rotation will be as follows:

• 1 July – 18 September: VC Grangård
• 19 September – 16 October: VC Fantetti
• 17 October – 11 December: VC Igwe
• 12 December – 22 January: VC Probert
• 23 January – 25 February: VC Laughlan 
• 26 February – 16 March: VC Watt
• 17 March – 30 April: VC Khan
