Introduction

United Nations Secretary-General announced on 29 April 2015 the appointment of Jean Todt as his Special Envoy for Road Safety. Mr. Todt is the President of Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) - Terms of Reference and Mr. Todt's CV.

Every year, some 1.3 million people are killed and up to 50 million people are injured on the world’s roads. Half of all road traffic deaths are among vulnerable road users such as pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists. Key areas of work

In Focus

A regional workshop dedicated to road safety was held on 8 & 9 August 2019 in Kingston, Jamaica, which was initiated by the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety.

The capacity-building workshop brought together over 40 experts representing 11 English-speaking Caribbean countries to discuss the current road safety situation in the region and to share best practices and lessons learned.

Highlights

  • The Special Envoy participated in the International Transport Forum (ITF) 2019 Summit, which brought together more than 1,000 delegates and distinguished speakers from over 70 countries around extensive deliberations on Transport Connectivity for Regional Integration.
