The Inland Transport Committee of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe in partnership with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways of India and Institute of Road Traffic Education, and in collaboration with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, are organizing an inaugural "Europe - Asia Road Safety Forum" on 4 December 2013 followed by a session of the Working Party on Road Traffic Safety (WP.1) on 5-6 December 2013 in New Delhi. After its 56th session (Rome, 3-4 December 2013) , the TIR Executive Board issued a statement on the functioning of the TIR Convention in the Russian Federation after 1 December 2013. The text of the statement is available in English and Russian.
TIR guarantee continues to be valid in Russia after 1 December 2013
The UNECE TIR secretariat has been informed that, on 29 November 2013, the Federal Customs Service (FCS) of the Russian Federation officially notified the national TIR guaranteeing association ASMAP about the extension of the FCS-ASMAP agreement until 1 July 2014. Therefore, the guarantees provided by ASMAP in the framework of the TIR Convention will continue to be valid on the Russian territory.
The UNECE and the International Center for Alcohol Policies (ICAP) have launched the e-book on "Regional Perspectives on preventing alcohol-related road crashes involving vulnerable road users".
Intermodal (road/rail) transport in Europe has declined in 2012 by 11% (click here for more details and figures).

General Assembly resolution A/RES/66/260 requested UNECE and other UN regional commissions to organize activities during the second United Nations Global Road Safety Week to raise awareness about road safety issues. The second United Nations Global Road Safety Week was held on 6-12 May 2013. UNECE commemorated the week in Geneva, Switzerland, with four key events and a poster exhibition. The events included a symposium on regional perspectives on drinking and driving, an interactive youth and young leaders session “Scouting for Global Road Safety”, a roundtable and poster exhibition dedicated to International Level Crossing Awareness Day, and a discussion forum on insurance and road safety.
