Sub-regional TIR Seminar in Beijing on 22 and 23 September 2005
The Seminar is organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), in close co-operation and the Ministry of Communications of the Peoples Republic of China.
The Seminar will provide detailed information on the functioning of the TIR Customs transit regime, its advantages for Customs authorities and international transport and trade in the region. The Seminar will also inform about the status of transit transport in the participating countries. The Seminar will inform participants on the roles and responsibilities of the various actors involved in TIR Customs transit operations (Governments, transport operators, national associations, insurance companies, the International Road Transport Union (IRU), the TIR Administrative Committee and the TIRExB). The major part of the Seminar will be dedicated to an open discussion and exchange of views on the present situation with regard to Customs transit in the region and on the application of the TIR procedure in particular.
The Seminar will be addressed by officials and experts from the UNESCAP, the UNECE TIR secretariat and the International Road Transport Union (IRU).
Chinese, English and Russian will be the working languages of the Seminar. Full simultaneous interpretation into/from these languages will be provided.

Participation
Participation at the Seminar is free of charge for accepted participants. The Seminar is intended for the Government officials and the private sector from China, India, Islamic Republic of Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Russian Federation, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The Seminar is also open to representatives of the neighbouring countries of the afore-mentioned countries. Please complete the attached nomination form if you are interested in participating in the Seminar.

Programme
Attached please find a Tentative programme of the Seminar. Each participant will receive a free copy of the latest edition of the TIR Handbook. At the end of the Seminar, certificates of attendance will be distributed to all participants. Chinese, English and Russian will be the working languages. Full simultaneous interpretation into/from these languages will be provided.

Seminar Registration
Participation in the Seminar is free of charge for registered participants. Participants are however expected to cover their own travel costs, accommodation and other personal expenses. Each participant at the Seminar must register with the UNESCAP prior to the Seminar using a copy of the attached Seminar Nomination Form. Participants are advised to return this form as soon as possible.
